About this event
Spend a day discovering the rich bounty of the Salish Sea in this fun, hands-on class for beginners. You’ll learn the basics of fishing and foraging along our coastline, with a focus on sustainably harvesting Dungeness crab, flatfish like flounder and sole, and a variety of clams. We’ll cover where to go, what gear you need, how to set crab pots, dig clams, and catch flatfish, along with essential rules and regulations, species identification, tides, and water safety. Expect plenty of demonstrations, time for questions, and maybe a few fishing stories along the way. No experience necessary. Just bring your curiosity and a sturdy pair of boots. By the end of the day, you’ll have the skills and confidence to start exploring the edible treasures of the Salish Sea on your own. Students under 18 who want to participate must be accompanied by a chaperone. Youth accompanied by a chaperone only need to pay one tuition fee.
