About this event
Spend your weekend making a shaker-inspired stool in this weekend class. This class focuses on using a small set of hand tools, light bandsaw use, and wedged mortise and tenon joinery to make a vernacular staked stool. Students will make all the components, cut the joints, and be encouraged to customize the leg design by shaping them to be round, octagonal, and tapered with hand planes and spokeshaves. There will be time at the end to apply finish to the stools and add texture by carving the top. These stools may come across as petite but are quite robust and versatile. They are easy to move around the house and are very functional. Place one next to a sitting area as a side table, in an entryway to put on shoes, or by the window for your cats and kids to look outside. Required tools: Notebook and writing implements Optional/Recommended: PTSW will provide all of these tools, but feel free to bring your own.
