About this event
Ready to conquer the boatshop without sacrificing your thumbs? This five-day crash course in power tool basics will get you up to speed on all the essential stationary and handheld tools you'll find in a working boatshop while eliminating the panic sweats. We’ll cover the safe and proper use of saws, sanders, planers, jointers, routers, drills, and more. Yes, they’re loud. Yes, they spin. But with a little guidance and a lot of respect, you’ll be running them with confidence. Our number one focus is safety, because nothing ruins a satisfying cut like a trip to urgent care. You’ll learn correct body positioning, tool setup, operation, and troubleshooting. This class is designed for beginners and anyone who's ever thought, “Maybe I’ll just wait for someone else to use that thing.” Through hands-on practice and instructor-led demos, you’ll develop the skills to safely and proficiently operate shop tools used every day in boatbuilding and woodworking. By the end of the week, you’ll be ripping boards, routing edges, and possibly even explaining kerf to your friends—and to make sure the class is a lasting memory, students will have plenty of opportunity to tackle personal projects throughout the workshop.
