About this event
Join the Boatshop crew for a one-day deep dive into the shiny, sticky, and surprisingly satisfying world of marine finish work. Whether your boat is a proud wooden classic or just in need of a facelift, this class will teach you how to protect it from sun, salt, and time with confidence. We’ll explore the world of paints, oils, varnishes, and other marine finishes, with hands-on demonstrations covering surface prep, application techniques, cleanup, and essential safety. You’ll get experience using brushes, rollers, and plenty of rags, plus learn when to sand, when to stop sanding, and how to fix things when you’ve gone a little too far. Finish work can feel intimidating, but by the end of the day, you’ll leave with practical tips, a clear checklist, and the confidence to make your boat gleam like that old favorite at the Wooden Boat Festival. Students under 18 who want to participate must be accompanied by a chaperone. Youth accompanied by a chaperone only need to pay one tuition fee.
