With The IMPACT Movement, our goal is to change the trend that ballet professional training is undervalued, while maintaining the relevance and importance of cultural value in the African American community. Dancers will have an opportunity to learn the basics of contemporary ballet to share the joy of moving to music in a class focused on enriching children’s lives with an appreciation for dance. Chocolate Ballerina Company is a contemporary community-based dance organization that supports the hidden talents in youth and adult artists of color in the Philadelphia region. We infuse classic ballet technique with urban pop culture music, to illustrate the cross between cultural differences and our unique similarities. We engage an underserved community through dance, to inspire and instill a sense of hope, discipline, and confidence through dance training and the development of professional experiences. As we continue to grow, on and off stage, we strive to fight for artists’ equal opportunity to express feelings and emotions through dance and gain the confidence to carry the legacy of this unique form. Through strategic community partnerships, program development, and outreach, we will work to expose more people to ballet and create an environment that engages all underserved communities in the Tri-State area. Movement IMPACT will pair community events such as after school program, free in community ballet performances, which celebrates African American artists in ballet and who lead and create on our Chocolate Ballerina tribe, with ticket subsidies that enable underserved audience members to experience Chocolate Ballerina Company main stage performances.
