First Day Hikes are free, guided hikes offered each year on New Year’s Day. The hikes are intended to promote an alternate way of celebrating the New Year by going outside, getting some exercise, and enjoying local nature and history. Start your year off on the right foot by joining our knowledgeable park rangers, naturalists, and volunteers in one of our County’s beautiful parks.
Join a Ranger at Downs Park for an easy and relaxing 1.8-mile hike through our Senior Trail. This paved trail contains multiple exercise stations, offering a great opportunity to familiarise yourself with their locations. We will meet at 10:00am outside the Visitor Center and, depending on group size and experience level, should finish around 11:00am. This fun activity is a good option for the whole family and welcomes well-behaved, leashed dogs.
Sturdy footwear, binoculars for spotting wildlife, and a water bottle are recommended. Please dress for the weather. This program is free, but registration is required. Normal gate fees apply. For more information, contact Park Ranger Danny Riggin at rprigg22@aacounty.org or 410-222-6230.
