Join us for a special presentation by Gerald Savage, Ho-Chunk Ska Ga (White Winnebago), a tribal elder of the Ho-Chunk Nation. Drawing on family traditions passed down from his grandparents, Chief Walks with the Wind and Stands on a Cloud, Gerald will share the rich history of Starved Rock and the surrounding region from a Native perspective. Spanning from the 1500s to today, the program explores Native settlements, the fur trade, the legend behind Starved Rock's name, its transformation from a private resort to a state park, CCC construction, the infamous Starved Rock Murders, Native ceremonies, and the park's continuing significance today.
