About this event
Ukulele players are popping up everywhere! Want to be one? Here’s your chance to learn how to play this wonderfully versatile, go-anywhere, instrument in a relaxed program taught with humor by our popular instructor, Duncan Perry. He will introduce you to essential chording and playing skills using familiar songs. And did you know that playing the uke is not only a stress buster and fun but it’s also good for your brain! The uke is a musical powerhouse on which you can play rock, folk, country, blues, jazz, classical – nearly any style, and, of course, the tunes that grandma and grandpa know. Will you be recruited to perform at Carnegie Hall? Well, not right away…. But, as the saying goes, ‘The best player isn’t the person with the greatest technical skill. It’s the person who can touch the most hearts.’ Once you master the basics, you won’t want to stop. You’re never too old to launch this healthful and fun-filled musical adventure! If you don’t have access to a playable ukulele, we’ll put you in touch with Duncan who can advise about size, construction, price, and where to buy one. May the uke be with you! As a bonus, you don’t need to read music – just sign up, tune up, and show up! Before attending the first session, please read the email and documents carefully. Pre-registration is required to receive online link. Duncan, an experienced, multi-instrumentalist, has been performing and teaching adults how to play the ukulele for the last 14 years. Having served as a volunteer music therapist in medical and hospice settings, he understands that music is medicine and that learning to play an instrument is not only fun but also sharpens the brain and helps to reduce stress. He has taught over 1,000 people to play the mighty uke and his mission is to spread the joy of ukulele to learners and audiences alike!
