About this event
The first session will be a get-to-know-you session and sailing theory held at Messalonskee High School. Then the class or small groups of class members will meet at the boat launch on Hosta Lane to row out to the instructing vessel, which is a 21-foot monohull sloop moored on Messalonskee Lake. You will learn to skipper the vessel during three or four-2 hour sessions based upon student availability, weather, and wind conditions. Please bring a life jacket, wear water shoes, a bathing suit, or shorts (or shorts over a bathing suit) are appropriate. (Do be prepared with extra clothes.) Wear sunscreen especially on arms and face. Some type of sun hat with a strap or elastic to hold it on is also recommended. No class will be held on Labor Day, 9/7. You will be notified by text when class is canceled due to weather conditions. Location: First class 8/31/26 | Monday at Messalonskee High School | 6:00 PM – 7:30 PM The sailing classes will meet at the Sidney Public Boat Launch at the end of Hosta Lane.
