The Buzz About BeesCelebrating World Bee Day with Beekeeper Dale Kleber
Curious about the fascinating life of honey bees? What really happens inside a hive buzzing with more than 50,000 bees? How is honey extracted, and how do these incredible insects survive Chicago’s harsh winters? Are honey bees in danger—and what would happen to our food supply if pollinators disappeared?
On World Bee Day, join Dale Kleber, Head Beekeeper for the Oak Brook Park District, as he shares answers to these questions and many more. Dale has been keeping bees for over ten years and manages the Park District’s apiary at the Dorothy and Sam Dean Nature Sanctuary. He’ll discuss what drew him to the art and science of beekeeping, the secrets behind producing happy, healthy bees and delicious honey, and the challenges facing both domesticated and wild bees today.
Attendees will also have the chance to sample Dale’s local raw honey and take part in a side-by-side comparison with store-bought, mass-produced honey. This program promises to BEE both fascinating and flavorful!
