Join Steve in this new four-week course that focuses on the subject matter of birds. We will study a high-resolution images to understand how to capture the complex beauty of our feathered friends without having to spend too much time on infinitely small details. Previous oil painting experience will help, but this course is open to all levels from beginner to advanced. Supply List for Oil Painting Birds Surface: A primed (white) painting substrate that measures 12”x12”. Can be wood, canvas or canvas board. Brushes: -Flat or angle flat: small, medium to large or 8 to 20 or 1/4” to 1” (8mm to 24mm) -Filbert: small to medium, 1 to 4 or 1/4” to 1/2” (8mm to 12mm) -Round: very small to medium, 0 to 6, most importantly sizes 2 to 4. -at least on Hog or Bright (shorter haired stiff brush) can be small to medium size (1/4” to 1/2” wide or 8mm to 1.5cm approx). For under painting in the first classes. Can be flat or filbert. -a Rigger (long bristled round) may be used for some detail in later classes. -a pointed filbert is nice but not necessary. Bring any brushes that you have that can fit in your supply case. Oil Paints: Titanium White (fast drying white or underpainting white can also work.) Cadmium Yellow Light (or any equivalent bright primary yellow such as Hansa or Azo) Yellow Ochre (Raw Sienna is an optional addition) Indian Yellow (usually not found in student grade brands) Transparent Oxide Yellow (sometimes called transparent earth yellow) Cadmium Red Light (or any equivalent bright primary red such as Naphthol or Azo) Alizarin Crimson or transparent Magenta (Oxide Red is an additional option) Ultramarine Blue (Prussian Blue is an additional fast-drying option) Raw Umber Burnt Umber Mars Black (Ivory or Lamp black is a nice additional option). Additional Pigments: Salmon(Opus brand) or Naples Yellow Reddish (Williamsburg). This can be pre-mixed with the other pigments. Bring any extra paints that you have.
