About this event
3 Thursdays, October 22 - Nov 5, 1:00 am - 3:00 pm Painting with Fabric: Kinusaiga Taught by Mary Jane Arden, 18+ Discover the elegant Japanese art of Kinusaiga, a unique fabric collage technique often called “painting with fabric” or “quilting without sewing.” Kinusaiga uses small pieces of cloth tucked into pre-cut grooves to create richly textured, quilt-like images—without a single stitch. In this hands-on workshop, students will learn the history and basic techniques of Kinusaiga while creating their own finished piece. Through guided instruction, you'll explore fabric selection, color composition, and design development. Suitable for beginners and experienced artists alike, this relaxing and rewarding class offers an introduction to a beautiful (and easy!) Japanese art form. The Newark Arts Alliance will retain a $5 cancellation fee if a student withdraws from a class. After earning her BFA from the University of Delaware, Mary Jane spent her career as an exhibit designer at a local museum and a graphic designer in higher education. In addition to her full-time career she taught User Centered Design at Wilmington University and Graphic Design, Computer Graphics and Drawing courses at Delaware Technical Community College. These days she has three artistic practices: fabricating primitive sculptures, creating collages, and writing.
