About this event
2 Thursdays, June 4 - 11, 10 :00 am - 12:00 pm Make Pocket-Sized Art: Creating ACEOs Taught by Mary Jane Arden, 14+ Tiny art, big creative energy. In this class, we’ll dive into the history and culture of ACEOs—Art Cards, Editions, and Originals—miniature, collectible works of art that pack serious imagination into a small format. Measuring exactly 2.5 x 3.5 inches, these pocket-sized pieces have been traded, collected, and cherished by artists around the world, proving that powerful art doesn’t need a large canvas to make an impact. Along the way, you’ll explore where ACEOs came from and why working small can actually open up huge creative possibilities. You’ll also create three or more original ACEO artworks of your own, experimenting with materials, imagery, and personal style. This course is all about turning a tiny surface into something unforgettable. Students will provide sharp scissors, an X-Acto knife, cardboard or a small self-healing sewing mat to cut on, 3 glue sticks (Elmer's Purple School is preferred), thick- and fine-tip black markers. The Newark Arts Alliance will retain a $5 cancellation fee if a student withdraws from a class. After earning a BFA from the University of Delaware, Mary Jane spent her career as an exhibit designer for a museum and as a graphic designer in higher education. In addition to her full-time job, she taught User-Centered Design at Wilmington University for ten years and graphics and drawing at Delaware Tech. These days, she has three artistic pursuits: fabricating primitive sculptures, creating collages, and writing.
