3 Mondays, September 14 - 28, 2:00 - 4:30 pm A Happy Mess in Pastel Class Taught by Judith Chamberlin, 18+ This is a mixed level pastel class. Beginning students will be introduced to the techniques that make a piece of pastel art varied and interesting. They will discuss the material used in pastels and the ways in which they are handled. Advanced students will examine various types of pastels and how they are used with water, alcohol and mixed media as well as explore the large variety of papers used in pastel painting. They will also look into the artistic dynamics used in painting portraits, landscapes, seascapes, florals and still life. Judith will work individually with each artist on evaluating his or her artwork and determine the best way to enhance each composition. Using the information presented the students will be able to produce a finished piece they can be proud of. The Newark Arts Alliance will retain a $5 cancellation fee if a student withdraws from a class. Since early childhood, Judith always appreciated art. After college, she began taking workshops with many well-recognized artists. Loving color (and finger painting), she found pastels to be her favorite medium, and continued to explore artistic results using its vibrant colors.
