You'll be guided through each step of the process— foiling, soldering, polishing, and adding a chain—while gaining confidence with tools and techniques used in stained glass work. The teacher will be cutting and grinding the glass prior to class for safety reasons. This is a beginner’s class. By the end of class, you’ll go home with a dazzling, sun-catching piece ready to hang in your window. There is a $25 materials fee which can be paid to the instructor at the start of class - cash or Venmo, please. No experience needed—all materials provided! The Newark Arts Alliance will retain a $5 cancellation fee if a student withdraws from a class. Maureen Coughlan took a glass class in 2004 to make a simple glass suncatcher and she hasn’t stopped yet. In the 20+ years she has created simple to complicated stained glass pieces including lamps, large and small panels, suncatchers, and wind chimes. This passion for making glass creations continues in her retirement years. She is an exhibiting artist at the NAA year round and teaches stained glass beginner classes monthly. She is a current board member and contributes to multiple committees.
