About this event
1 Monday, October 5, 12:00 - 4:00 pm Stained Glass: Pumpkins or Fall Leaves Taught by Maureen Coughlan, 16+ Learn the basics of stained glass using the classic “Tiffany” copper foil technique! In this beginner’s hands-on class, you’ll create a leaf or pumpkin suncatcher. You'll be guided through each step of the process— foiling, soldering, polishing, and adding the chain—while gaining confidence with tools and techniques used in stained glass work. The instructor will call each of the students to ask which project they want to do and what color choices. The instructor will be cutting and grinding the glass prior to class for safety reasons. By the end of class, you’ll go home with a dazzling, sun-catching creation ready to hang in your window. No experience needed—all materials provided! There is a $25 materials fee which can be paid to the instructor at the start of class - cash or Venmo, please. The Newark Arts Alliance will retain a $5 cancellation fee if a student withdraws from a class. Maureen Coughlan took a glass class in 2004 to make a simple glass suncatcher and she hasn’t stopped yet. In the 20+ years she has created simple to complicated stained glass pieces including lamps, large and small panels, suncatchers, and wind chimes. About 10 years ago she taught herself the techniques of fusing glass using her kiln. This passion for making glass creations continues in her retirement years. She is an exhibiting artist at the NAA year round and teaches stained glass beginner classes monthly. She is a current board member and contributes to multiple committees.
