12. THE GREAT TEMPRANILLO TASTING (Friday, March 27)
Tempranillo is Spain’s finest grape and one of the world’s best. In Spain it is responsible for the great reds of Rioja, Ribera del Duero and Toro. But it can be found all over the country with different names and clones that produce many wines of distinction. Tempranillo is also widely planted in Portugal where, as Tinta Roriz and Aragonez, it is one of the ingredients of Port, and the main component of the Douro, Dão and Alentejo reds. In Australia more than a hundred wineries make wines with Tempranillo today. It can also be found in France, Argentina and Mexico, and it is making inroads into California, Oregon and even Virginia. In this season’s final seminar, we will blind taste some of the finest wines that Tempranillo delivers. Please note that this class registration is non-refundable.
