Have you ever wondered how stone carvings are made? Now's your chance to dive in and learn first hand! Sculpt a stone sculpture like the prehistoric Venus Figures but of your own vision. Working from sketches and printed references, Students will learn the basics of stone carving, a reductive technique, using Italian alabaster. Carving figures that are similar to the Paleolithic Venus figurines will help students learn the steps to achieve a finished stone sculpture. This process includes sketching the design on the stone, blocking out the form, refining the form, sanding, and polishing/sealing the final sculpture.
