About this event
Grown-ups and kids get to create, explore, and make new friends together in this hands-on ceramics class! Sign up for one or both sessions—each session runs for 5–6 weeks and features new projects. The goal of Family Ceramics is to build community while giving both kids and grown-ups space to make their own art. Grown-ups work together at one end of the table while kids create at the other. Adults can lend a helping hand when needed, but this is also a chance for grown-ups to connect and make new friends! Kids welcome to sit with their grown ups if they prefer! Artists will create projects like figurines, wall hangings, trinket trays, and more while learning traditional ceramics techniques. Students will explore hand-building, experiment with ceramic tools, and learn how to apply underglaze before finishing their creations with a kiln firing. MEET THE INSTRUCTOR: FAITH MCCASLIN-GROSSNICKLAUS (she/her) is a working artist and musician in New Orleans. She got her start working alongside her ceramicist parents at Bell Pine Art Farm in Oregon. Drawing inspiration from folklore, the works of Georgia O'Keeffe, and the flora and fauna of the Pacific Northwest, she quickly developed her own distinct style under the moniker Bone China Designs. Faith is an equally accomplished musician. She began studying traditional Scottish fiddle at age 7 before attending the Academy of Arts and Academics in Springfield, Oregon, where she learned to integrate her different fields of interest, combining ceramics and costuming with theatrical musical performance. For the last 12 years she has travelled the country and abroad presenting her ceramic work and performing solo or in the band Roselit Bone. Since moving to New Orleans in 2024, she has been an active vendor at local craft markets, a studio assistant at The London Clayworks, and a teacher at Art Camp 504.
