Week 1 – Pinch Pots: Intro to clay and tools Week 2 – Texture tiles using stamps, leaves, and tools Week 3 – Coil creatures or coil bowls: Students will roll coils of clay and stack them into a spiral or swirl bowl. Optional: add small sculpted elements like gems or snakes! Week 4 – Slab wall pocket or pencil holder Week 5 – Mini sculptures: animals, food, houses, etc. Week 6 – Glazing Session #1 - glazing Weeks 1–5 projects Week 7 – Mugs or cups with handles Week 8 – Clay whistles/noisemakers Week 9 – Containers with lids Week 10 – Nature-impression plates or wall art Week 11 – Free-build project of choice Week 12 – Glazing Session #2 - glazing Weeks 7–11 projects. Week 13 – Catch-up day & Glazing Session #3 (final pieces & overflow) Week 14 – Art show & project pick-up What’s Included: All materials and tools Professional kiln firing Instruction by a trained ceramic artist and educator What Students Will Learn: Pinch, coil, and slab building How to attach clay using slip and score Basics of drying, bisque firing, and glazing Fine motor skills, creativity, and problem-solving Respectful studio habits and cleanup skills Parent Notes: All pieces will be sent home at the conclusion of the semester. The last class will be an 'art show' where parents are invited to see and hear all about their child's work in ceramics! This semester will have different projects from the first semester, making it suitable for returning students!
