The Right to Dream follows the coming-of-age of Raymond, a young Black activist in the segregated South during the 1960s. As he joins the fight for voting rights and equality through the Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee (SNCC), the performance shares the courage, resistance, and hope of the Civil Rights Movement.
Through dynamic solo performance and archival film, this multimedia show brings the 1960s struggle for voting rights and civil rights into sharp, human focus. From sit-ins to marches, The Right to Dream is a moving portrait of youth activism, community organizing, and the personal sacrifices made to move a country forward. New York based Actor Brian Simmons performance provides a powerful lens for discussion on democracy, race, equity, and civic participation—then and now.
