What does it look like for a community center to completely reimagine its mission in response to the changing needs of its city?For 30 years, Jennifer Turner has faithfully led the Oregon Hill Baptist Community Center through seasons of transformation in Richmond’s historic Oregon Hill neighborhood. As the city changed, so did the Center’s calling. In 2026, the Center made a bold and wholehearted transition—focusing all its resources, partnerships, volunteers, and programs on walking alongside Richmond’s unhoused community. But this work is about more than services. It is about relationships, dignity, trust, and creating space for voices too often unheard to help lead the way forward.
