About this event
Description
Help care for Lake Crabtree’s meadow habitat by assisting with hands-on maintenance work. Volunteers will use loppers and hand clippers to remove sweetgum and other woody plants from habitat cover rows left in the meadow after mowing. These un-mowed rows provide important shelter for wildlife, while periodic mowing helps keep grasses low and maintains the meadow’s ecological balance.
Individuals, families, and groups are welcome to participate. Anyone under the age of 18 (including high school students) must be accompanied by an adult. Hand tools will be provided, but volunteers are welcome to bring their own loppers or clippers if preferred.
Please wear long sleeves, long pants, gloves, and sturdy, closed-toe shoes. Poison ivy is present in the meadow and may be a concern for those who are highly allergic. Drinking water, sunscreen, and a hat are recommended. All participants must complete a Volunteer Waiver Form prior to the event.
