Tintin, whose side are you on ?
Across four decades of the 20th century, the thrilling escapades of Tintin unfolded against a backdrop of real-world events and societal upheavals. This workshop invites us to explore this intricate mirroring. We'll also untangle the complex identities at play: How do we distinguish Georges Rémi, the individual, from Hergé, the artistic persona ? And how does Hergé, the creator, differ from Tintin, his enduring boy reporter ? Furthermore, can a character transversing five continents over forty years truly remain untouched by politics ? If not, where might Tintin's allegiances lie on the political spectrum ? Finally, our presentation will delve into Hergé/s aesthetic vision within The Adventures of Tintin and consider the surprising relevance of this iconic character in our contemporary world.
