This class is dedicated to the foundational concepts of GCA’s drawing methodology. Beginning with the basics: learn how to approach an initial linear drawing aka the “block-in” using comparative measurement and shape-finding. Then progress to modeling form three dimensionally, by learning how to depict volume on a two dimensional surface. Students will develop a strategic and sculptural approach to modeling form as they learn patience, focus, accuracy, and observational detail. The instructor will critique and demo each week. Because artists are being advised and encouraged to choose casts appropriate for their skill level, this class is great for both beginners and more advanced GCA students and can be taken repeatedly. Students can expect to walk away with a firm grasp of a systematic approach to create a greater sense of depth and realism in their drawings.
