Botanical Printing on Cloth: Discover the beauty of nature’s own palette! In this two-part workshop, you’ll learn the fundamentals of botanical printing using leaves and flowers gathered from your surroundings. FRIDAY, 5:30 -7:30 PM: We’ll begin with an introduction to the chemistry, materials, and methods behind natural dyeing. You’ll prepare a cotton tea towel and a silk swatch with mordant, allowing them to dry overnight. SATURDAY 12:30 - 4 PM: After a discussion of composition and process, you’ll design and create your own botanically printed textiles. Take your finished (but damp) tea towel and silk swatch home, or leave them to pick up later. Participants are also welcome to bring small pieces of cotton, linen, or silk (one yard or less) to mordant in the fiber studio while prints are steaming.
