About this event
April 27, May 4, May 11 6:00-7:30pm This course will be for adults who love botanicals and the natural world, or any one who is looking to grow their drawing skills. I hope to use this time for exploration, growing curiosity and using art as a form of learning. It is aimed towards people who already have a foundation in drawing, but it is open for beginners. This will be an introduction to botanical art using illustration and observation. I want to grow an appreciation for plants just in time for spring. Lesson 1: Taking a closer look Lesson Outcome: Discussion around finding inspiration, taking field notes, and taking the time to slow down. Informing our drawings with better observation. Exercises: Observation, taking measurements, leaf rubbings, and dissection. Fill a sketchbook page with illustrations and notes. Lesson 2: Plant structure Lesson Outcome: Learning how to simplify what we see. Capturing the shape and structure of leaves, blooms, stems, and the plant as a whole. Drawing from different perspectives to learn about the three dimensional shape. Lesson 3: Texture, Pattern, and Color Lesson Outcome: Learning how to use texture and pattern to create depth. Applying observation to inform a more depth illustration. Applying this practice in everyday life.
