About this event
ULPI provides opportunities for pedagogy students to share their passion for teaching, apply best practices, & prepare for their future careers. ULPI offers a meaningful way for the University to connect with community by offering lessons accessible to all members of our community. ULPI is under the direction of Dr. Chee Hyeon Choi, Professor of Piano & Piano Pedagogy. Lessons are inclusive of K-12 & adult students who are interested in learning piano recreationally & gaining comprehensive musicianship skills. UNDERGRADUATE INSTRUCTORS: EMILY JOHNSON: Pursuing a BA in Piano Pedagogy at UL, she has performed at numerous events and masterclasses. She was chosed to represent the College of Arts at the 2026 Posters at Capitol. ERIK MENDER: A 3rd year piano pedagogy student at UL and recipient of an Honorable Mention in the Frank Hanley Competition. He performs keyboard and clarinet with university ensembles. INSTRUCTORS: HALEY BARONNE: An instructor w/ULPI since 2023, she completes her BA in Piano Pedagogy Fall of 2026. An active member of MTNA & LAMTA, she was 3rd place in the Frank Hanley Competition. She holds degrees in Psychology from Emory University & Nursing from the Univ of Maryland, working as an RN for 12 years. EVERETT BROUSSARD: Holds a piano performance degree from UL and has taught across Louisiana for many years. He designs personalized curricula that balances rigorous training w/engaging activities, encouraging students to reach their full potential. DR. CHEE HYEON CHOI is Assistant Professor of Piano Pedagogy & founder/director of ULPI. An international performer & researcher, she recently gave a keynote presentation at the Korean Piano Pedagogy Symposium. She is the Chair of Louisiana Music Teachers Assoc Collegiate Faculty Forum & MTNA Competitions.
