Join guest speaker David Ramsay to explore three trail-blazing Maine women who defied their era's constraints: botanist Kate Furbish, whose flower illustrations halted a massive dam; Senator Margaret Chase Smith, the first woman to serve in both congressional houses; and marine biologist Rachel Carson, whose book Silent Spring launched the environmental movement. Local Historian – Narrator – Storyteller David brings history to life with wit and humor, talking about events and people from early American Colonial up to recent times. He brings to life people and little-known events that brought wealth, honor, literary fame, and recognition to the Piscataqua region, Maine, and Northern New England. During the summer he works as a tour guide/narrator for the Isles of Shoals Steamship Company on the Motor Vessel Thomas Laighton and for Historic New England as tour guide at the Sarah Orne Jewett House in South Berwick, Maine. During the winter, he makes history presentations to retirement communities throughout northern New England and works at various other jobs. He and his wife live in South Berwick, Maine, where he is an active with the South Berwick Conservation Commission.
