Description

The Y Achievers Program is a nationally recognized college and career readiness initiative for teens ages 13–19, designed to prepare students for success after high school. The Linwood YMCA Hub focuses on supporting minority, first-generation, and low-income students within an inclusive, cohort-based environment.
The Linwood Hub operates as a year-round pathway for Kansas City high school students, with intentional recruitment of sophomores to support a three-year cohort model that tracks academic growth and college readiness outcomes through graduation.
The program is built around five core pillars:
Academics – Tutoring, grade monitoring, and academic support aligned with school learning.College Knowledge – FAFSA support, college applications, scholarship navigation, and campus visits.Positive Relationships – Mentorship, peer cohort community, and family engagement.Life Skills – Financial literacy, communication, conflict resolution, and professional etiquette.Positive Identity – Leadership development, cultural affirmation, service learning, and goal setting.
****Programming includes virtual sessions on the 2nd and 4th Tuesdays (6:00–7:00 PM) and in-person sessions on the 3rd Saturdays (9:30 AM–12:00 PM), along with college tours, networking opportunities, and other enrichment experiences****
The Linwood Y Achievers Hub equips students with the skills, exposure, and support needed to confidently pursue college, career, and life success.
