Students will glue up strips of various species and widths of wood to create simple, yet beautiful cutting boards. The simple strip style cutting boards are the first step in creating more elaborate glued up boards, and yet even these simple glue ups give the opportunity for creative expression as well as celebrating the natural beauty of wood. In this class, we will learn the fundamentals of processing rough lumber into square stock using the jointer, planer, and table saw. We will learn about different species of wood and their properties. We will practice glue-ups - a process that is exhilarating and sometimes nerve-wracking. And we will learn how to bring out the natural beauty of the wood with sanding and finishes. This two-evening class gives us time to allow panel glue-ups to dry fully before finishing them on the second evening. In this class students will assemble and finish a cutting board made of glued up strips of wood. Students under 18 may attend with parental permission.
