About this event
Day one is all about woodworking and finishing techniques. Students will measure, mark, and use a drill press, band saw, and sanders to prepare their stool for assembly. Round mortise and tenon joinery will be used to assemble the stool, with chisels helping refine precise joints. Students will also learn the natural, no VOC, finish known as milk paint. By the end of day one, each student will have a fully painted and assembled stool frame ready for weaving on day two with Guest Instructor Phil Syphrit. Phil will guide you through weaving a classic herringbone and basketweave pattern for the seat. This two-day structure allows you to focus on the build first, then the creative and meditative weaving process. Students will build a sturdy wooden stool frame out of poplar and dowels with a woven rattan seat. Students under 18 may attend with parental permission.
