Description

Drawing begins with learning how to truly see. In this engaging 10-week course, participants will build a strong foundation in drawing while developing greater confidence in their own creative abilities. Through guided practice in sketching, gesture and figure drawing, still life, composition, perspective, proportion, shading, texture, and the interaction of light and form, students will learn how to translate three-dimensional subjects onto a two-dimensional surface.
Whether you are new to drawing or looking to strengthen your existing skills, this class will help you move beyond simply looking to observing with greater attention and understanding. Participants will experiment with a variety of drawing materials and papers, receive thoughtful guidance, and learn to approach feedback as an encouraging part of artistic growth.
Instructor Dr, Hani Kamal Elkadi, MD, PH.D., Master of Art Education from the University of Iowa in 1996, brings decades of experience as an artist, educator, and creative professional. He received art education in Italy and Holland, wrote an illustrated column for the Press-Citizen for 20 years, and was named Teacher of the Year in the University of Iowa College of Medicine three years in a row.
Instructor Rebecca Mathews is an artist working in watercolor, acrylic, oils, liquid charcoal, and pencil. She has studied with Dr. Elkadi and currently teaches at ICSC. Her work focuses on expressive art and creative exploration, drawing on her experience in set design, collaborative and community art projects, and teaching.
