BLACK BIRDERS WEEK - May 24-30, 2026
Originally organized by BlackAFinStem, Black Birders Week is a movement that centers Black community, joy, liberation, healing, visibility, and the transformative power of nature. This Week is designed to uplift Black participants, though allies are welcome to attend in a supportive role.
Family Center open 9:00 am - 8:00 pm – Crafts, coloring, bird information, and interactive tables will be set up in the Family Center for all ages! Learn more about birds with hands-on activities and create your own birds to take home!
Bring your own or borrow our binoculars and bird field guides from the Family Center for a self-guided bird walk, and explore the wonderful birds that call Washington Park home! Find your community of like-minded outdoor adventurers.
Park staff will lead guided bird walks through the park. Park staff will also host a Sit & Song, a bird watch from the comfort of one of our park shelters. Please call the Family Center at 317-327-7473 for more information.
Children under 18 must be accompanied by an adult.
Be sure to wear comfortable walking shoes and dress for the weather!
