Description
This class will consist of many open-ended, fast-paced improvisational drawing exercises. These exercises will ask you to jump in, make a mark, and see what or who shows up. Many of these drawings will be made independently, some collaboratively, all with a high degree of openness and engagement. Some prompts will ask you to draw a particular thing (e.g., draw a meal from last monday), some will ask you to respond to a formal constraint (e.g., turn a drawing of the word monday into a meal). Most prompts will be time-constrained to discourage nitpickery and offer you the opportunity to learn from your hand and instincts. The class will ask you to be creative, reflective, and flexible. It will prompt you to look for inspiration in your day-to-day life, trust the process, and work without a plan. You will leave the class with a sketchbook full of work and the inspiration to continue exploring on your own.
This class is for the perfectionists who want to loosen up and compulsive doodlers who want a little structure. No drawing or art experience required.
