About this event
Get a jump on summer fun with our 2-Day Mini Mountain Bike Camp in partnership with Ottawa County Parks! Our skilled coaches put an emphasis on fun while building skills that help riders tackle our area trails. Inspired by our 4-day camp curriculum, riders learn essentials such as: basic riding position, shifting and braking, cornering, and how to tackle bigger hills and obstacles. Our goal is for each rider to experience the joy of biking and grow more confident each day! Previous trail riding experience is not required. Riders should be able to ride independently (stop and start, no training wheels or strider/balance bikes*) and have the balance to ride on rougher, dirt trails. Campers are grouped by ability, and quick assessments help ensure everyone rides at the right level and can advance to more challenging groups over time. With expert coaches and a focus on fun, safety, and exploration, this camp is the perfect next step for young cyclists ready to take on new adventures out on the trail. This camp is open to all grade-school kids, K - 8th Grade. *Riders should already be comfortable pedaling a two-wheeled bike (no training wheels or striders). Not quite there yet? Check out our Balance Buddies and Pedal Pals programming on our website: www.velo-kids.org/programs/learn-to-ride. What to Bring: A positive attitude! A helmet and a functioning bike. Don’t have one? Borrow from our Bike Library! (Contact emily@velo-kids.org if a bike or helmet is needed.) A backpack or hydration pack to carry your own water and snack. The ability to ride independently (start and stop) and ride on uneven surfaces (dirt trails)
