Designed for students with little to no sculpting experience, this class provides a hands-on introduction to essential ceramic techniques while encouraging creativity and self-expression. Throughout the course, students will learn foundational skills including coiling, slab building, scoring and slipping, creating and using slip, joining clay securely, and adding texture and decorative details. Participants will also become familiar with a variety of ceramic tools and learn how each one can be used to shape, refine, and personalize their work. As techniques are introduced each week, students will apply their new skills to the creation of a beautifully detailed ceramic tile. From planning a design to carving, sculpting, and adding expressive surface textures, each student will develop a unique piece that reflects their individual artistic style. By the end of the course, participants will leave with greater confidence in working with clay, a strong foundation in handbuilding techniques, and an intricate ceramic tile ready to be fired and enjoyed for years to come.
