About this event
Get on board Project Oceonology's research vessel and head out to sea for a unique educational journey to discover the future of sustainable ocean farming! Join kelp farmer, Suzie Flores, for a visit to her sugar kelp farm in Fishers Island Sound, where she will share her passion for regenerative aquaculture, explaining how these graceful ribbons of kelp grow from lines suspended beneath the surface, absorbing carbon and nitrogen while creating habitat for marine life—all without any fertilizers, freshwater, or farmland. Hear from Yellow Farmhouse and Eating with the Ecosystem about the work they do to foster a deeper appreciation for our marine ecosystems and new knowledge about sustainable food production. After the boat tour, take a look inside CT Sea Grant's mobile seaweed research laboratory, where scientists are innovating new techniques for sugar kelp seed production. Perfect for food enthusiasts, educators, environmentalists, and anyone curious about the future of farming! Please reach out to info@yellowfarmhouse.org or call the farmhouse at 860-245-5119 with any questions.
