About this event
Join Matthew McKenzie, Professor of History at the University of Connecticut, whose work explores the deep cultural and economic ties between New England communities and the sea, for a compelling look at the evolution of working waterfronts in southeastern Connecticut. Drawing on centuries of maritime history and his research on fisheries and coastal life, McKenzie traces how marine environments have shaped—and been shaped by—human activity over time. As part of Kelp Fest, this talk celebrates the start of the sugar kelp harvest season in New England while offering rich historical context for today’s coastal foodways and ocean stewardship. Address: Project Oceanology at UConn Avery Point - 1084 Shennecossett Rd, Groton Connecticut | 5:30PM - 6:30PM This program is free to the public, with a suggested donation of $10 at checkout! Please reach out to info@yellowfarmhouse.org with any questions, or call the farmhouse at 860-245-5119.
