About this event
Instructor: James Robertson Skill Level: Beginner Ages: 14+ Medium: Drawing Total Class Hours: 6 Description: This three-day class is an introduction to exploring light and shadow through charcoal drawing. Light and shadow turn flat marks on a page into something that feels solid, dimensional, and alive. In a charcoal drawing, the way light falls across a form and the way shadows wrap around it create the illusion of volume. This class introduces the fundamentals of observing and rendering those relationships so you can make your subjects feel convincingly three‑dimensional. Every representational artwork, whether charcoal, oil, watercolor, or digital, relies on value to communicate form. Color can enhance a piece, but value is what gives it structure. By learning to control light and shadow with charcoal, you build a foundation that strengthens all other mediums.
