Instructor: Kate Furman Skill Level: Beginner Medium: Jewelry Total Class Hours: 15 Description: Learn the foundations of metal jewelry making in this hands-on beginner class. Students will explore essential techniques such as sawing, filing, texturing, soldering and finishing while creating their own wearable pieces. You'll leave with a solid understanding of studio tools, safety and craftsmanship, plus at least one finished piece of jewelry made by you! Kate is a Greenville, SC based jewelry artist known for transforming nature-inspired sketches into handcrafted fine jewelry. With her BFA in Jewelry and Metalsmithing from University of Georgia and her MFA in Jewelry and Metalsmithing from Rhode Island School of Design, she blends traditional techniques with a modern, organic aesthetic. * NOTE * Metalworking can be a slow and laborious process, but the rewards are big. This beginning class will not feature stone setting but is required to move forward to more advanced techniques.
