About this event
Instructor: James Robertson Skill Level: Intermediate Ages: 14+ Medium: Acrylic Painting Total Class Hours: 15 hours Description: See Perspective. Draw with Confidence. Perspective doesn’t have to be built with rulers and vanishing points. In this 5-class course, you’ll learn to see space, judge angles, and create convincing depth through observation alone—then carry those skills directly into painting. Class 1: Train Your Eye Using the GCCA building as your subject, learn to see perspective instead of constructing it. Observe tilted lines, shifting planes, and forms that diminish with distance—all freehand. Through focused practice, you’ll build confidence by learning to trust your eye. Class 2: Create Depth Take on more complex spaces, from overlapping objects and interiors to long receding views. Quick studies strengthen your ability to judge scale, spacing, angles, and direction, giving you the tools to create convincing depth through observation. Class 3: From Study to Drawing Put your skills together in a finished drawing. Start with broad directional lines, then refine the forms through careful observation. Learn to keep your drawing fluid, unified, and alive—not overworked. Class 4: Bring It into Paint Begin a painting of the GCCA building, using loose, confident brushwork to establish form, depth, and value. Apply your observational perspective skills while learning to adjust proportions and angles as the painting evolves. Class 5: Finish with Confidence Complete your painting by refining perspective, proportions, edges, and forms through observation. Strengthen your ability to judge space intuitively while keeping your brushwork expressive. By the end, you’ll have a finished painting—and a new confidence in your ability to see and paint perspective freehand.
