Rooted in classical technique and guided by expressive, contemporary sensibilities, this class will cover the essential steps of painting the human face—from proportion and structure to color harmony, brushwork, and capturing emotional presence. Students will work through foundational studies and build toward a finished portrait, working from photographic reference and mirrors. We’ll begin with drawing and value underpainting (grisaille), then move into color mixing, skin tone palettes, and refining form with light and shadow.
