Instructor: Steven Chapp Skill Level: Intermediate Medium: Printmaking Total Class Hours: 5 Description: In this one-day introduction to intaglio, the printing process in which prints are created from the recessed lines of a matrix. Students will observe examples of drypoint prints and the various styles and techniques used to create the imagery. Various drawing methods will be demonstrated, including crosshatching and sanding the plate to develop the imagery. Students will develop sketches that demonstrate the use of crosshatching to create value, conforming to the format of the 5” x 7” acrylic plate. Students will prepare their plate by beveling the edges and begin their drawing on the plate. Students will observe how to prepare their printing paper, ink, wipe, and print their plate. Students will produce a couple of proof prints and an edition of five consistent prints, then sign, title, and number the prints.
