Instructor: Kate Furman Skill Level: Beginner - Intermediate Ages: 18+ Medium: Jewelry Total Class Hours: 15 Description: Discover the foundations of metalsmithing as you create your own custom bezel-set cabochon ring — perfect for wearing solo or stacking with future pieces. Designed for beginners, this hands-on class introduces gemstones, including understanding cabochon cuts and how to properly measure stones for a perfect fit. You’ll learn essential techniques such as sawing, filing, soldering bezel wire, sizing and forming ring bands, attaching components, setting your stone, and polishing your finished piece. By the end of the series, you’ll leave with a completed bezel-set ring and the confidence to continue your metalsmithing journey. No prior experience necessary — just bring your creativity and curiosity! Kate is a Greenville, SC based jewelry artist known for transforming nature-inspired sketches into handcrafted fine jewelry. With her BFA in Jewelry and Metalsmithing from the University of Georgia and her MFA in Jewelry and Metalsmithing from the Rhode Island School of Design, she blends traditional techniques with a modern, organic aesthetic.
