Carving the Deep invites participants to step into the fascinating world of scrimshaw, the traditional art of sailors etching designs into ivory and bone. In this program, you'll learn the history behind the craft and explore real examples of scrimshaw that capture life at sea. Then, you'll create your own design and practice the carving process using tagua seeds, which have a similar feel and look as ivory, with no animals harmed. Location: Maryknoll Clubhouse. (ls)
