About this event
Three IN-PERSON sessions June 2, 9, 16 The first class session features a show-and-tell of Cherokee culture, including philosophy, history, and handmade crafts. The second class session presents useful plants of the Cherokee, including sources for food, medicine, crafts, and insect repellency. The final class session will be an outside experience on campus…one which brings to life the ordinary things around us that have become "background in nature" but were once treasured gifts for survival. There will be some light walking and standing on uneven ground during this last meeting. Mark Warren is the sole instructor at Medicine Bow Wilderness School, where he teaches Cherokee primitive skills and nature classes. He is the author of 20 books and the recipient of awards from Georgia Author of the Year (2022), Western Writers of America, Will Rogers Medallion Awards, Historical Novel Society, and Arizona/New Mexico Book Awards. Mark was named National Wildlife Federation "Conservation Educator of the Year" for Georgia in 1980. In 1998, he was a U.S. Champion Whitewater Canoeist, and in 1999, a World Champion Longbow archer.
