About this event
This workshop introduces participants to the fundamentals of screen printing while showing how to create a simple DIY setup at home. In the morning session, participants will explore the traditional screenprinting process by applying and exposing emulsion and producing their first prints through guided demonstrations. Each step of the workshop—from setup to strike-offs—will be explained so participants gain a clear understanding of how the process works. In the afternoon, the workshop shifts to an accessible, emulsion-free technique known as monoprinting. This method offers a flexible and home-friendly approach to screen printing that requires minimal equipment and offers a wide range of experimentation potential. The day concludes with open studio time, giving participants the chance to experiment, refine their prints, and explore the creative possibilities of both methods. Materials provided including prepared image to expose. If you want to print on a textile (tote bag, t-shirt, etc.) please bring those items. Emily Blair is a weaver and cultural worker based in unceded and unsurrendered traditional Wolastoqey territory, known as Fredericton. She attended NBCCD (Textile Design Diploma, 2017) and studied in Tiohtià:ke/Montréal, completing her BFA at Concordia University (BFA, 2023). While at Concordia, Emily was nominated as a fellow of the Milieux Institute of Art in the Textiles and Materiality Research Cluster. Emily works closely with artist-run centers, curating exhibitions, programming artist residencies, and sitting on the board and selection committees for the George Fry Gallery, the Charlotte Street Arts Centre, and the NB Craft Foundation. She currently works as the Executive Director of Connexion Artist-Run Center and is an Instructor at NBCCD. Emily’s curatorial approach focuses on local established and emerging artists who display a diversity of mediums that address topics relevant to the discourse of Fredericton’s arts community.
