Description
Participants will learn about safety, condition assessment, types of mortars, mortar analysis, and the methods for raking and prepping joints, mixing historic mortars and repointing. This is a hands-on workshop and participants will practice raking out mortar joints and masonry repointing on practice panels of brick and stone. Participants will leave the workshop with a deeper understanding of how to apply the Secretary of Interior Standards and what skills are need to repoint historic brick and stone. All tools and materials will be provided. Workshop will take place at the "Death House" at 330 Montevue Lane, Frederick, MD 21702 (behind the Frederick County Health Department). Due to instability of the structure, no work will happen on the building.
