In this class, students will be learning the foundations of oil painting, as well as how to paint portraits. During the 4-week course, students will create a copy of Vermeer's Girl with a Pearl Earring. This class is great for beginners or for those who want to fine-tune their oil painting skills!
Week 1: Learning to create an accurate drawingWeek 2: Establishing an underpainting and large value areasWeek 3: Refining detailsWeek 4: Adding the final details
Students will need to bring their own solvent or solvent alternative in a sealable container for cleaning brushes. Gasmol or Lavender Spike Oil are the recommended solvents options for this class and can be found online or at local craft stores such as Michael’s or Hobby Lobby. Alternatives include Turpentine or Terpenoid (requires more ventilation) or Stand Oil or Linseed Oil (has a longer drying time), but may not be as easy to use as the recommendations above. The instructor will provide the necessary materials for this class including images of the portrait subject. A $35.00 supply fee is due to the instructor at the start of the first class.
Limited spacing available; pre-registration is required. Please direct all questions to Kaelyn Terry at Kaelyn.Terry@williamsoncounty-tn.gov. All credits/transfers/refunds must be processed with Kaelyn at least 48 hours prior to the class.
